ENHANCING SERVICES FOR ENGLISH-SPEAKING CLIENTELE MICRO-GRANT
Overview
This microgrant program provides financial support of up to $1,000 to social economy enterprises based in the province of Québec seeking to improve or expand their services to English-speaking residents or visitors. The goal is to promote accessibility and inclusivity for English speakers by supporting practical initiatives that facilitate communication and engagement.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for funding, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a registered social economy enterprise (e.g., cooperative, nonprofit organization, or solidarity enterprise) based in and operating in the province of Québec.
- Demonstrate an intent to serve English-speaking clientele, either residents of Québec or tourists.
- Submit a specific, actionable project that aligns with the eligible activities listed below.
- Agree to complete the project within three months of receiving funds.
Examples of Eligible Projects
Eligible projects must directly enhance services for English-speaking clientele. Examples include:
- Adding bilingual or English signage to your physical space.
- Designing and printing an English-language version of a brochure or menu.
- Creating or translating web capsules or promotional videos into English.
- Developing an English-language guided tour (audio, video, or in person).
- Offering English courses for client-facing staff members.
- Creating bilingual materials for outreach, events, or educational purposes.
- Offering live interpretation services at a conference or event.
It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that the proposed project complies with federal and provincial language laws.
Note: This list is not exhaustive. Creative projects aligned with the program’s objectives will also be considered.
Discouraged Projects
The grant is not intended for social economy enterprises that already operate principally for the benefit of English speakers (a nonprofit English-language theatre organization, for example).
Ineligible Expenses
Funds may not be used for:
- Salaries or ongoing operational expenses
- Projects not directly benefiting English-speaking residents of or visitors to Québec
- Projects benefiting exclusively members of English-speaking First Nations in Québec or English-speaking immigrants (who have arrived fewer than two years ago) to Québec
- Equipment purchases not directly tied to the proposed initiative
- Projects that serve only internal or administrative functions
Funding Amount
Funds may not be used for:
- The maximum funding per project is $1,000.
- Grants may cover up to 100% of eligible project costs.
- A detailed budget must be submitted with your application.
How to Apply
Deadline
Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until funds are exhausted.
Required Documents
Applicants must submit:
- A completed application form
- A brief project proposal (max. 2 pages) including:
- Description of the project
- Intended outcomes and audience
- Timeline
- A detailed budget (including quotes, if applicable)
- Proof of legal status and operation in Québec
Evaluation Criteria
Applications will be evaluated based on:
- Relevance: How well the project addresses the needs of English-speaking clientele
- Feasibility: Clarity of the project plan and likelihood of successful completion
- Impact: Anticipated reach and benefits for English speakers
- Cost-Effectiveness: Value provided for the requested amount
Reporting Requirements
Grantees must submit a brief final report within 30 days of project completion, including:
- A summary of activities completed
- Photos or digital samples (if applicable)
- A short reflection on outcomes and impact
