Discover and Develop: Workshops

SEEnet offers a series of workshops for all those interested in working with social enterprises, building the social economy, learning about cooperative and not-for-profit business practices, and creating effective management tools.

Choose from our workshops and discover more about the social economy of Québec.

What Is the Social Economy?

Join us for a crash course on the social economy! The social economy is not just a philosophy, it's a practice that encompasses community-driven initiatives, cooperatives, and social enterprises. In this workshop, we’ll explain core concepts and definitions as well as give an overview of the global movement and Québec’s notable place within it. Participants will leave this workshop with an understanding of what practices and activities are included in the social economy and how they can get involved!

Project Management Tools

There are many online tools available to help you manage your staff’s projects and progress. Whether you’re looking to get started with online project management or you want to use your existing software more effectively, we’ll discuss best practices and how to get the most out of the programs, even if not everyone on your team is technologically inclined. No matter which program you’re using—Asana, Monday, Wrike, or something else—the fundamentals and concepts are the same. We’ll also touch on online file management: while Google Drive is a great tool, it’s not unusual to have a hard time finding things after you’ve put them into your Drive. We’ll look at the best ways to organize your files so you and your team can easily access them.

Business Plan Writing 101

Do you have a business idea but don't know how to get it off the ground? This workshop will give participants a broad overview of all the core elements of a business plan (e.g., value proposition, marketing, operations, and financial planning). Participants will also be provided resources and tools to help with their own business plans.

Organizational Succession Planning

During times of change, it’s normal to wonder about the future of your organization. In this webinar, we’ll cover strategies for succession planning and passing on leadership. Participants will gain an understanding of various succession-planning methods as well as risk mitigation during times of organizational change.

Collaborative Governance Structures

Designing the right organizational structure can make or break an organization. This workshop will explore various collaborative structures which can assist organizational development for nonprofits and cooperatives. Participants will gain an understanding of different, innovative models and gain the tools to evaluate which model is best suited for their organization.

Collective Entrepreneurship

This workshop will focus on the entrepreneurial process, community building, and the advantages of collective entrepreneurship! We’ll cover what it takes to start a new enterprise and share resources that can help support you in this process.

Conflict Resolution Management

This workshop will share some best practices for conflict resolution as well as conflict prevention and tips for dealing with different personality types. Participants will leave with a basic understanding of the core communication processes and mediation techniques involved in conflict resolution.

Going Into Business as a Cooperative

Are you thinking of starting a business? Did you know that the cooperative business model offers a number of advantages? A collaboration with the Coopérative de développement régional du Québec, this webinar will provide you with information on how to start a cooperative business and how the model can benefit you and your community!

Making Your Grant Applications Count

Part art, part science, writing grant applications requires more than just filling out a form. Purpose, preparation, and a good understanding of what the funder wants are just some of the key elements that go into making a good grant application.
