Show Notes

Québec City nonprofit Antitube operates Cinéma Beaumont, dedicated to not only screening independent films from Québec, Canada, and the rest of the world but also making their theater, which opened in 2023, a hub where filmmakers and film fans can meet and share their passion for cinema. In a domestic scene where independent cinemas throughout Canada are being increasingly squeezed out by larger chains, Cinéma Beaumont has created an enviable niche in the community.

Executive Director Ariane Caron Béland and Programming Director Jason Béliveau join the show to talk about Québec’s flourishing cultural sector, how they choose the films they screen, and where the names “Antitube” and “Cinéma Beaumont” come from.
