Show Notes

Social economy enterprises have influenced Québec for more than a century and are fairly well known in the province, especially by Francophones with roots here. But how do you integrate newcomers who are unfamiliar with the concept into the movement? Since starting in 2018, Montreal-based Startop, a nonprofit, has worked with hundreds of immigrant women throughout Québec to take their business ideas and show how they can turn them into social economy enterprises.

We welcome Startop founder Mariam Coulibaly to discuss its rapid growth, how Québec’s current social economy ecosystem isn’t well adapted to an immigrant clientele, and Startop’s new adventure into creating a…dating service?
